About
Friends of Schuylkill River Park

Friends of Schuylkill River Park is a non-profit organization. It was formed in 1988 by concerned neighbors to foster the preservation, beautification, improvement, maintenance, and enjoyment of Schuylkill River Park.

The Park, nestled along the Schuylkill River, spans the area from Lombard Street to Manning Street. For active recreation it offers Schuylkill Pocket Veterans Memorial field – a baseball diamond and soccer field – tennis courts and basketball courts. Children enjoy our Markward Playground and recreation center and O’Connor Pool every summer. Park users enjoy lawns and tree-lined walkways, a conversation area and a community garden. A unique feature of the park is the Dog Run – a special enclosed area for dogs, featuring a doggie fountain and separate small and large dog areas.

Park membership raises funds, through dues and donations, to pay for landscaping and maintenance of the park, playground, ball field, pool, and dog run.

Friends of Schuylkill River Park works in a public private partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation. In addition, members of FSRP’s board consult with the 9th Police District to ensure the security of the Park and its neighborhood.
